NEW! Wildlife Drive and the Visitor Center at The J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuges Will Re- Open April 4
On September 28, Hurricane Ian, a near category-five storm, ravaged Refuge habitat and facilities, triggering the closure of all its waters and land to public access. February 1, “Ding” opened its Tarpon Bay Recreation Area, and on April 4, it will open the gate to Wildlife Drive for the first time with a chamber of commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony. The “Ding” Darling Visitor & Education Center will also reopen that day.
10/2022 DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF HURRICANE IAN, SAN-CAP AUDUBON WILL NOT BE OFFERING ANY PROGRAMS OR BIRDWALKS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. PLEASE CHECK BACK HERE FOR UPDATES.
Programs: A speaker series every Thursday night in January and February, covering topics related to birds and conservation.
Bird Walks: Starting with the Christmas Bird Count and continuing until April, we hold bird walks every Saturday at several on and off island locations.
Led by experienced leaders, the walks are fun and educational. Most walks require walking up to a mile over uneven terrain. All are welcome.
Resources & News: Watch our short shorebird video highlighting the threats Sanibel shorebirds face everyday on the beach and showcasing simple ways beachgoers can be good neighbors to shorebirds and other coastal wildlife.
